England manager Gareth Southgate has confirmed Luke Shaw and Mason Mount will not be involved in the team’s trip to San Marino in their final World Cup qualifier on Monday.

Shaw was injured in the Manchester derby, which Manchester United lost 2-0 to Manchester City. While Mount pulled out his wisdom tooth earlier this week and both were not involved. With the game that the team defeated Albania 5-0 earlier

Southgate has now confirmed that the duo will not be involved in the team’s final game against San Marino on Monday night.

“Luke and Mason are unlikely at the moment,” Southgate said.

Southgate is expected to change several players, with Jude Bellingham, Emile Smith Rowe, Jack Grealish and Bukayo Saka expected to enter the field. The team just asks for a draw to guarantee they will play in the final in Qatar next year.

Shaw has been dealing with a head injury that he suffered in the Manchester derby. Before the international break last weekend, while Mount underwent dental surgery on an infected wisdom tooth earlier in the week.

Both obviously missed Friday’s 5-0 thumping of Albania. After the game, Southgate admitted that the pair are unlikely to make it back in time for the next fixture.

“Luke and Mason are very unlikely to joins us,” he said (via the Evening Standard). “It looks like we will run out of time with those two.”

Fortunately for Southgate, Monday’s game doesn’t look like being a tough one. San Marino are the most famous minnows around and have shipped 36 goals in their nine qualifying games so far – scoring just once.
